The successful candidate will design and develop mobile-first interfaces, Progressive Web Applications (PWAs), and seamless user experiences while collaborating closely with backend developers, product teams, and field staff.

Position Summary

The Frontend Software Developer will be responsible for building responsive React applications, integrating backend APIs, implementing intuitive user interfaces, conducting usability testing, and ensuring excellent performance across multiple devices and network conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mobile-first responsive web applications using React.
• Build Progressive Web Applications (PWAs) with offline functionality using service workers and IndexedDB.
• Optimize applications for low-bandwidth environments and low-end devices.
• Create intuitive and accessible user interfaces for users with varying digital literacy levels.
• Develop responsive web and mobile interfaces for all platform modules.
• Conduct user research and usability testing to improve user experience.
• Design wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs.
• Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG).
• Integrate frontend applications with RESTful APIs and WebSocket services.
• Collaborate with backend developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, and field teams.
• Conduct cross-browser and cross-device testing.
• Optimize frontend performance, page loading speed, and user interactions.
• Maintain component libraries, technical documentation, and API integration guides.
• Mentor junior frontend developers and support onboarding activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should possess:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Graphic Design (Technology Focus), or a related field.
• 5+ years of frontend software development experience.
• Minimum 3 years of advanced React development experience.
• Expert knowledge of React.js, Hooks, Context API, Redux or Zustand.
• Advanced proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, Webpack, and Vite.
• Experience building Progressive Web Applications (PWAs).
• Strong knowledge of responsive and mobile-first development.
• Experience integrating RESTful APIs and WebSockets.
• Proficiency in Tailwind CSS, Material UI, or similar CSS frameworks.
• Experience using Git and GitLab workflows.
• Knowledge of frontend testing frameworks such as Jest and React Testing Library.
• Experience using design tools including Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.
• Understanding of accessibility (WCAG) and inclusive design principles.

Preferred Skills

Candidates with the following will have an added advantage:

• Experience with React Native.
• Knowledge of USSD/SMS platforms such as Africa's Talking.
• Experience using mapping libraries such as Leaflet, Mapbox, or Google Maps API.
• Knowledge of agribusiness, agricultural systems, or supply chain solutions.
