Job Overview

Pearl Hospital, a Level 4 multi-specialty hospital in Laikipia County, is seeking a qualified and compassionate Clinical Officer to join its healthcare team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing quality medical care through patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management in accordance with established clinical guidelines, hospital protocols, and professional standards.

About the Role

The Clinical Officer will provide frontline clinical services, including patient consultations, diagnosis and treatment of common medical conditions, interpretation of diagnostic tests, emergency care, and minor procedures within their scope of practice.

The successful candidate will also contribute to infection prevention and control, implementation of hospital policies, and effective collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Clinical Care

  • Conduct patient consultations, including history taking and physical examinations.
  • Assess patients and establish appropriate clinical diagnoses.
  • Diagnose and manage common medical conditions.
  • Provide appropriate treatment and follow-up care.
  • Prescribe and administer appropriate medications within the scope of practice.
  • Provide emergency and first-line medical care.

Diagnostic & Treatment Services

  • Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic investigations.
  • Interpret laboratory and diagnostic test results.
  • Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment where necessary.
  • Perform minor medical and surgical procedures within the scope of practice.

Patient Safety & Infection Control

  • Ensure adherence to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols.
  • Maintain high standards of patient safety and quality of care.
  • Follow established clinical guidelines, protocols, and hospital policies.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.

Teamwork & Administration

  • Work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support implementation of hospital policies and clinical guidelines.
  • Participate in hospital clinical activities and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards when interacting with patients and colleagues.
  • Perform other clinical duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
  • Registered and licensed by the Clinical Officers Council (COC).
  • Valid practicing license.
  • At least 1–2 years of relevant clinical experience, including internship experience.

Professional Requirements

  • Current registration with the Clinical Officers Council.
  • Valid clinical practicing license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is an added advantage.
