Job Overview

Solvo Global is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer to join its technology team in Nairobi. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, functionality, and performance of web and mobile Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products.

The role will initially involve serving as the primary QA Engineer supporting a project team, with potential opportunities to progress into a QA Lead or QA Manager role based on performance and business requirements.

About the Role

The Senior Software QA Engineer will be responsible for developing risk-based testing strategies, creating comprehensive test plans, identifying and tracking software defects, and collaborating with software engineers, product managers, and other QA professionals throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience testing web-based, mobile, and multi-tier applications, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced Agile environment. Advanced English proficiency is required.

Key Responsibilities

Software Testing & Quality Assurance

• Define and implement risk-based testing strategies for software projects.
• Create, execute, and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scenarios.
• Conduct functional testing of web, mobile, and multi-tier applications.
• Validate application functionality, reliability, usability, and performance.
• Perform testing across different stages of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Support performance and load testing activities where required.
• Identify potential quality risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.

Defect Management & Reporting

• Identify, document, and track software defects throughout the testing lifecycle.
• Investigate issues and work with development teams to support timely resolution.
• Verify bug fixes and conduct regression testing.
• Track testing progress, quality risks, and key testing metrics.
• Prepare clear testing reports and communicate quality concerns to stakeholders.

Collaboration & SDLC Support

• Collaborate closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and QA teams throughout the SDLC.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and delivery activities.
• Support multiple concurrent software projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Communicate testing progress, risks, blockers, and mitigation strategies effectively.
• Work with Automation Engineers to identify suitable opportunities for test automation.

QA Process Improvement

• Contribute to improvements in QA processes, testing methodologies, and best practices.
• Support enhancements to testing infrastructure and tools.
• Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, efficiency, and software quality.
• Promote consistent quality assurance standards across development projects.

Team Support & Mentorship

• Mentor junior QA Engineers and support their technical development.
• Share software testing knowledge, methodologies, and best practices with team members.
• Provide guidance on test planning, defect management, and quality assurance processes.
• Demonstrate leadership potential and contribute to the development of the QA function.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in Software Quality Assurance and/or Software Development.
• Strong experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Proven experience testing web-based, mobile, and multi-tier applications.
• Advanced experience in test planning and test strategy development.
• Experience with functional testing and/or performance/load testing tools.
• Experience testing database-driven applications.
• Strong SQL skills and experience writing SQL queries.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments.
• Advanced English communication skills.
