Job Overview

Jeremiah Nyagah National Polytechnic is seeking a qualified and experienced Internal Auditor to strengthen its internal audit, risk management and governance functions. The successful candidate will review financial and operational systems, assess internal controls, conduct audits and investigations, and provide recommendations to improve accountability and compliance.

About the Company

Jeremiah Nyagah National Polytechnic (JNNP), formerly known as Rwika Technical Institute, is a public technical and vocational training institution located in Embu County, Kenya. Established in 1984, the Polytechnic offers more than 50 accredited TVET courses across areas including engineering, ICT, business and hospitality, serving a student population of over 3,500.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and execute internal audit assignments in accordance with approved audit plans and professional standards.

Review and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls.

Assess risk management and governance systems.

Audit financial, procurement, stores, payroll and operational systems.

Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Prepare comprehensive internal audit reports.

Make recommendations for improving institutional processes and controls.

Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and report on their progress.

Conduct investigations into suspected fraud, irregularities and misuse of public resources.

Liaise with external auditors, oversight bodies and management on audit matters.

Provide professional advice on internal control and risk management issues.

Support the Polytechnic in strengthening accountability and financial management.

Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor in line with the mandate of the institution.

Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or a related field from a recognized institution.

Professional qualification such as CPA (K), CIA, ACCA or equivalent.

Registration with ICPAK in good standing.

Relevant experience in internal auditing, preferably within a public sector institution.

Demonstrated knowledge of public sector financial management.

Knowledge of risk management principles and audit standards.

Strong understanding of internal controls and governance.

High level of integrity and professionalism.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent report-writing and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.

Good attention to detail and ability to meet audit deadlines.
