JOB DESCRIPTION

A well-established ISO 9001:2015 certified Consulting and Training organization is seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic, results-oriented and career-driven individual for the position of Junior Developer.

The successful candidate will join the organization's development team and work closely with the Senior Developer to build, maintain and improve software applications and digital solutions. The role is suitable for a developer who has a strong foundation in both frontend and backend development and is eager to grow their technical skills through practical experience.

The Junior Developer will be expected to contribute to the development lifecycle by understanding existing applications, implementing new features, testing software, maintaining code and documenting development work. The position will also provide an opportunity to participate in product demonstrations and testing while working collaboratively with other members of the organization.

The ideal candidate should have practical knowledge of React JS, Python Django and Django REST Framework (DRF) and should understand the principles of Test-Driven Development (TDD). The organization is looking for someone capable of working as a full-stack developer and who understands modern software development practices, including containerization.

The successful candidate should also demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, integrity, willingness to learn and the ability to work effectively with colleagues at different levels of the organization, including senior management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Senior Developer, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Understand and improve existing frontend and backend code.

Develop, implement and maintain software features according to project requirements.

Take ownership of assigned features and ensure they are completed within the required timelines.

Write appropriate tests for developed features to ensure reliability, functionality and maintainability.

Maintain existing applications and identify opportunities for improvement.

Troubleshoot and resolve software-related issues within the scope of assigned responsibilities.

Document code and development processes to support maintainability and knowledge sharing.

Participate in product demonstrations and provide technical input where required.

Participate in product testing to identify bugs, usability issues and other technical problems.

Collaborate with the Senior Developer and other team members throughout the software development lifecycle.

Contribute to both frontend and backend development activities.

Follow established coding, testing and documentation standards.

Apply software development best practices when designing and implementing solutions.

Support continuous improvement of existing systems and development processes.

Stay informed about emerging technologies and development tools relevant to the organization's products and services.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

B+ and above in KCSE.

Diploma or Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.

Candidates with strong practical development skills who are self-taught may also be considered.

At least 1 year of relevant development experience.

Proficiency in React JS.

Proficiency in Python Django.

Proficiency in Django REST Framework (DRF).

Good understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD).

Ability to work as a full-stack developer.

Understanding of containerization and modern development environments.

Ability to understand, modify and maintain existing code.

Ability to write and maintain software tests.

Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
