Job Summary
CDL Human Resource is seeking a highly experienced and dependable Accountant to join a construction and finishing materials company in Kenya. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with applicable Kenyan tax and financial regulations.
The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within the construction, hardware, building materials, or related industry. Strong practical experience with Sage accounting software, financial reporting, inventory accounting, taxation, and financial controls is required.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and accounting books.
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including supplier and customer reconciliations.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
Conduct regular bank, supplier, customer, and other account reconciliations.
Monitor and record inventory transactions involving tiles, sanitary ware, adhesives, and other finishing materials.
Maintain proper inventory accounting records and support stock control processes.
Process payroll and ensure statutory deductions are accurately calculated and remitted within the required timelines.
Prepare and submit applicable tax returns, including VAT, PAYE, NHIF, and NSSF, in accordance with Kenyan regulations.
Ensure the organization's accounting and financial activities comply with relevant Kenyan laws and regulatory requirements.
Support budgeting, financial forecasting, cash-flow planning, and overall financial management.
Monitor cash flow and provide management with relevant information on the organization's financial position.
Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation and coordinate with external auditors during audit exercises.
Generate financial and management reports using Sage accounting software.
Review accounting transactions to identify discrepancies, errors, and potential financial risks.
Support procurement and sales departments with financial information, cost analysis, and stock-related controls.
Assist management in monitoring financial performance and identifying areas for improved financial efficiency.
Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records for easy retrieval and audit purposes.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional qualification such as CPA (K), ACCA, or an equivalent accounting qualification.
Minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting experience.
Previous experience in the construction, hardware, building materials, or finishing materials industry will be highly advantageous.
Strong practical knowledge and hands-on experience using Sage accounting software.
Good understanding of financial reporting, bookkeeping, taxation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory accounting.
Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax and financial compliance requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent numerical and financial management skills.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgment.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with other departments.
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict financial reporting deadlines.
Preferred Skills
Experience managing accounts within a construction or building materials environment will be an added advantage. Candidates who understand stock management, inventory controls, project-related accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, and cash-flow management will be well suited for the position.
The successful candidate should also demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate financial records in a busy commercial environment. Familiarity with Kenyan statutory requirements and accounting practices will be important in ensuring that the organization remains compliant and financially well controlled.
