Job Description

Amentum is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Cashier to support its financial and customer service operations in Lamu. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling cash and other forms of payment, accurately recording transactions, preparing deposits and maintaining financial documentation in accordance with established procedures and contractual requirements.

The Cashier will handle cash, cheques and other approved forms of payment from patrons while verifying eligibility and processing transactions accurately. The role requires a high level of accountability because the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all payments received are properly documented and accounted for.

The successful candidate will collect payments according to established meal rates and complete the required documentation for each meal period. This includes obtaining required patron signatures and accurately recording cash collections using the relevant payment and cash receipt records.

The Cashier will also be responsible for preparing cash deposits and ensuring that collected funds and supporting documentation are properly secured. Deposits will be prepared together with the Daily Activity Report and submitted through the designated cash depository or central cashiering process, depending on the applicable procedure.

Accurate completion of cash collection documentation will be an important part of the role. The Cashier will prepare the necessary cash collection vouchers for each deposit and ensure that funds are transferred to the designated government account accurately and on time.

The position will require the Cashier to maintain accurate financial records, receipts and reports. The successful candidate will conduct routine checks of daily transactions to identify errors, discrepancies or missing documentation and ensure that all financial activities comply with established procedures.

Customer service will also be an important responsibility. The Cashier will interact directly with patrons, respond to inquiries, process payments and assist in resolving concerns. Candidates must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in English and provide courteous service to customers from diverse backgrounds.

The Cashier will be expected to follow established financial controls and operational procedures at all times. Attention to detail, integrity and proper handling of confidential or financial information will be essential to maintaining accurate records and protecting company and government funds.

The role may also involve performing other duties that are consistent with the nature and level of the position. The successful candidate should therefore be flexible, dependable and willing to support wider operational requirements when necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have a Diploma or equivalent relevant qualification and at least 1–2 years of experience in cashiering, accounting, finance or a related role. Candidates should have practical experience handling cash transactions and maintaining accurate financial documentation.

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are required. The ideal candidate should be comfortable following standardised payment procedures, maintaining financial records and conducting transaction checks to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Excellent customer service and communication skills are also required. The successful candidate must be able to read, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position and comply with applicable emergency procedures.

The successful candidate must be able to complete and maintain required training and certifications, including customer service, CPR and First Aid training, with annual recertification where required.

Applicants must also possess a valid passport with at least one year of validity at the time of hiring and be able to travel internationally. Candidates must be able to obtain applicable country-specific visas, meet contract medical requirements and obtain and maintain required facility credentials or authorisations.
