Job Overview

Nariana Enterprises Ltd. is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant – Construction to support the financial management and accounting operations of its Civil Engineering Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, project accounting, budgeting, statutory compliance, reconciliations, cash-flow management, cost control and internal financial controls.

The role requires a highly experienced accounting professional with strong practical knowledge of Tally ERP, excellent financial analysis skills and experience working in construction, civil engineering, contracting or other project-based environments.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant will maintain accurate accounting records and oversee monthly and year-end accounting processes. The role involves preparing management accounts, including Profit and Loss Statements, Balance Sheets and Cash Flow Reports, while ensuring transactions are correctly recorded, classified and allocated.

The successful candidate will manage accounts payable and receivable, review supplier invoices and reconciliations, monitor outstanding customer balances and prepare ageing reports. They will also follow up on collections and ensure receipts are correctly allocated to customer and project accounts.

A major part of the position will involve project accounting and cost control. The accountant will maintain project-wise financial records, monitor expenditure against budgets and Bills of Quantities (BOQs), identify cost overruns and investigate unusual or incorrectly allocated expenses. The role will require close collaboration with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, Stores and site teams.

The Senior Accountant will also assist with budget preparation and cash-flow forecasting, monitor financial commitments and provide management with information regarding expected collections, supplier payments and project-related financial requirements.

The role will further involve managing VAT, PAYE, withholding tax and other statutory obligations, ensuring accurate and timely submissions and maintaining appropriate documentation. The successful candidate will also support external audits, prepare audit schedules and respond to audit queries.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining the fixed asset register, supporting payroll accounting, reviewing the work of junior accounting staff, strengthening internal controls and providing management with regular financial reports and analysis.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.

CPA, ACCA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is highly preferred.

5–7 years of relevant accounting experience.

At least 3 years in a senior accounting position or similar level of responsibility.

Strong practical experience using Tally ERP.

Previous experience in construction, civil engineering, contracting, engineering or project-based organisations is highly preferred.

Strong knowledge of financial reporting, management accounts, budgeting and cash-flow management.

Experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations.

Knowledge of project accounting, cost-centre accounting and project cost control.

Experience with VAT, PAYE, withholding tax and statutory compliance.

Experience supporting external audits.

Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

High levels of integrity, confidentiality and accountability.
