Synnefa is offering paid six-month internship opportunities for recent engineering graduates to gain practical experience working on agricultural technology and field-based engineering projects.

The available opportunities are Mechanical Engineering Intern – Field Operations and Civil & Structural Engineering Intern – Field Operations. Interns will work as part of Synnefa's hardware team and participate in engineering design, documentation, field inspections, quality control and project deployment.

1. Mechanical Engineering Intern – Field Operations

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the hardware team in developing and improving Synnefa's Smart Solar Dryer product range.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with preparing and maintaining engineering drawings.

Support documentation of drying chambers, airflow systems and ventilation.

Assist with fan and component selection.

Collect and organize temperature, humidity and airflow data from field installations.

Support thermal and drying performance testing.

Prepare quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities.

Assist with fabrication drawings and workshop documentation.

Participate in field quality-control inspections.

Verify materials against approved specifications.

Prepare as-built documentation and project closeout records.

Submit regular reports on assigned field activities.

Requirements

BSc in Mechanical Engineering completed within the last two years.

Agricultural or Biosystems Engineering graduates with relevant thermal and fluids knowledge may also be considered.

Candidates awaiting degree conferment may apply using their academic transcript.

Competence in AutoCAD.

Knowledge of SolidWorks, Inventor or similar software is an advantage.

Good Excel skills.

Willingness to travel to rural field locations.

Strong written English and documentation skills.

2. Civil & Structural Engineering Intern – Field Operations

The Civil and Structural Engineering Intern will support the design and implementation of civil and structural components used in Synnefa's agricultural projects.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and maintain engineering drawings.

Assist with civil site-preparation packages.

Support foundation, drainage and anchorage designs.

Assist with detailing structures, drying beds and related installations.

Prepare reinforcement details and bar bending schedules.

Participate in site setting-out and foundation inspections.

Assist with assessing ground conditions.

Prepare quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities.

Support preparation of construction and fabrication documentation.

Conduct site quality-control inspections.

Verify delivered materials against specifications.

Prepare as-built documentation and project closeout records.

Submit regular field reports.

Requirements

BSc in Civil Engineering completed within the last two years.

Candidates awaiting degree conferment may apply using a transcript.

Competence in AutoCAD.

Knowledge of Civil 3D, Revit, Robot, ETABS, Prokon or similar software is an advantage.

Good Excel skills.

Willingness to travel to rural field locations.

Strong written English and documentation skills.

Internship Benefits

Successful interns will receive:

Monthly stipend of KES 20,000 gross, subject to statutory deductions.

Six months of practical engineering experience.

Exposure to real agricultural technology projects.

Important Internship Information

These are fixed six-month internships and do not automatically lead to permanent employment. However, interns may apply for future permanent positions if suitable opportunities become available.
