Job Summary

Sybyl Limited is seeking a skilled and experienced Database Administrator – MySQL & EDB PostgreSQL to join its team in Nairobi. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering, maintaining, securing, and optimizing database environments that support business-critical applications and enterprise operations.

The Database Administrator will play an important role in ensuring that databases remain available, secure, reliable, and capable of supporting production workloads. The position requires practical hands-on experience with both MySQL and EDB PostgreSQL, together with a strong understanding of database administration, backup and recovery, performance optimization, security, high availability, and replication.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in production environments and responding to database-related incidents in a timely and structured manner. The role will also require someone who can monitor database health, identify potential performance or reliability issues, and implement appropriate solutions to maintain operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

Database Installation and Administration

The Database Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and administration of MySQL and EDB PostgreSQL database environments. This includes setting up database instances according to operational requirements, configuring appropriate settings, maintaining database services, and ensuring that systems remain properly managed throughout their lifecycle.
