Key Responsibilities

Patient Billing and Customer Service

  • Guide patients and guardians on admission requirements and documentation for private insurance and SHA processing.
  • Verify that patients' or guardians' SHA contributions are up to date before admission.
  • Educate patients on available payment options, including private insurance and SHA.
  • Process patient billing, generate accurate invoices, and explain billing procedures.
  • Prepare accurate invoices for donor-funded patients upon discharge.
  • Identify financially vulnerable patients and refer them to the hospital social worker for assistance.
  • Follow up with patients regarding admission requirements and insurance approvals.

SHA Compliance and Financial Management

  • Ensure all SHA claims comply with Social Health Authority guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit monthly SHA claims within the required timelines.
  • Reconcile SHA accounts monthly to ensure timely reimbursement of submitted claims.
  • Reconcile daily revenue collections with the Chief Accountant.
  • Prepare weekly cash collection reports.
  • Support insurance claims processing when required.
  • Assist with petty cash payments and cheque disbursements in the absence of the relevant finance officer.
  • Record all receipts accurately and sequentially within the financial system.

Quality Assurance and Administrative Support

  • Participate in mobile clinic activities by coordinating financial processes.
  • Support stock-taking exercises when assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with child protection and safeguarding policies.
  • Maintain workplace cleanliness and occupational safety standards in line with OSHA requirements.
  • Support hospital quality improvement initiatives and SAFECARE standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in hospital billing, insurance claims processing, or healthcare finance is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Social Health Authority (SHA) procedures and private medical insurance billing is desirable.
