About This Opportunity

Job Overview

A leading telecommunications company is seeking a Sectional IP Network Engineer to support the maintenance and availability of the MSAN network while ensuring high customer uptime and service quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for field-based network maintenance, power system management, implementation of ISDN and PSTN services, and ensuring service delivery within company Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Engineer – MSAN & Field Reporting and working closely with the Head – Enterprise Technical Support, the Sectional IP Network Engineer will maintain network reliability through proactive maintenance of MSAN nodes, resolve network faults, perform service provisioning activities, and support customer connectivity while adhering to engineering and health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Network Maintenance

  • Maintain high MSAN network availability through proactive maintenance of power systems.
  • Manage assigned MSAN and switch power-related faults within agreed SLAs.
  • Carry out routine quarterly maintenance of all assigned MSAN nodes.
  • Provide power autonomy reports and recommendations for each node.

Network Operations

  • Conduct feasibility studies for new customer connections.
  • Implement, disconnect, and reconnect ISDN and PSTN circuits at the MSAN level.
  • Prepare and maintain customer setup documentation.
  • Ensure timely restoration of services and provide regular customer updates during fault resolution.

Performance Management

  • Monitor MSAN performance and ensure network uptime targets are achieved.
  • Track network operational costs and work closely with the Finance department.
  • Submit monthly MSAN power meter readings to Finance.
  • Work within the allocated monthly fuel budget.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to HSE regulations and engineering standards.
  • Follow company procedures and legal compliance requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the department.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned feasibility tickets within 24 hours.
  • Resolve assigned network faults within required timelines.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Maintain 99.65% average MSAN availability for Nairobi nodes.
  • Ensure 90% of Nairobi MSANs meet power performance targets.
  • Reconnect 80% of disconnected lines within two hours after payment.
  • Complete 80% of provisioning and cessation requests within 24 hours.
  • Resolve 80% of assigned faults within four hours.
  • Submit monthly power meter readings by the 20th of each month.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher Diploma in Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid Kenyan driving licence.
  • 3–5 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.
  • Experience working within large national network environments.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

Technical Skills

  • Hands-on experience installing and maintaining power equipment.
  • Knowledge of SIP technology and working with SIP providers.
  • Strong routing and switching experience with multi-vendor routers and switches.
  • Cisco certification or other recognized IP networking certification.
  • Understanding of MSAN operations and field maintenance.
