Position Summary
The Medical Officer will provide quality medical care across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency departments. The role involves diagnosing and treating patients, performing minor procedures, maintaining accurate medical records, participating in clinical governance activities, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and patient safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Patient Care & Management
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and clinical examinations.
- Obtain detailed medical histories and formulate differential diagnoses.
- Order and interpret laboratory investigations, radiological studies, and other diagnostic tests.
- Develop evidence-based treatment plans and prescribe appropriate medications.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans where necessary.
Inpatient & Emergency Care
- Conduct daily ward rounds for admitted patients.
- Review patient progress and coordinate timely discharge planning.
- Provide emergency medical care, triage, and patient resuscitation.
- Perform minor clinical and surgical procedures including wound debridement, suturing, lumbar puncture, chest drain insertion, and cannulation.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies while adhering to clinical protocols.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely, and legible patient records.
- Prepare discharge summaries, referral letters, and clinical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with insurance pre-authorizations and medical audit requirements.
- Adhere to hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Quality Assurance & Collaboration
- Collaborate with consultants, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Participate in Mortality and Morbidity (M&M) meetings and Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions.
- Support clinical governance initiatives and quality improvement programs.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols.
- Uphold medical ethics and patient safety standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB/MBBS) or equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
- Valid registration and current practicing license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Minimum of 1–3 years post-internship clinical experience in a busy hospital.
- Current certification in BLS, ACLS, and ATLS/ALSO is an added advantage.
- Strong clinical diagnostic and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Hospital Management Systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
