Job Summary

Octavia Carbon is seeking a Process Design Engineer to support the design, development, and safe operation of direct air capture systems and related laboratory and pilot equipment. The role combines engineering analysis with practical implementation, including process design, equipment selection, testing, commissioning, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop process designs based on project and testing requirements.
  • Prepare heat and mass balances and perform equipment sizing calculations.
  • Create and update Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment datasheets, and operating procedures.
  • Select process equipment including pumps, vessels, valves, heat exchangers, instruments, and piping.
  • Define instrumentation, control strategies, alarms, and safety interlocks.
  • Prepare technical specifications and support procurement and supplier evaluations.
  • Plan process tests, analyze data, and recommend performance improvements.
  • Support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, safety reviews, and preparation of operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Material & energy balances
  • Thermodynamics
  • Fluid flow
  • Heat & mass transfer
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and clearly explain assumptions and results.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, equipment drawings, and datasheets.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work both in the office and hands-on with laboratory or pilot equipment.

Preferred Experience

  • Up to 3 years of relevant experience in process design, commissioning, pilot operations, instrumentation, or engineering research.
  • Fresh graduates with relevant internships, industrial attachments, or strong engineering projects are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience preparing equipment specifications and working with suppliers.
  • Exposure to sensors, PLCs, SCADA, or process control systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Aspen Plus/HYSYS, DWSIM, Python, MATLAB, Draw.io, or similar software.
  • Interest in carbon capture, gas processing, adsorption, vacuum, or heating systems is an added advantage.
