Job Overview

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is seeking a creative and motivated Communications Intern to support its communications activities in Kenya. The successful candidate will assist with content creation, media monitoring, website updates, social media communication, reporting and coordination of communications-related activities.

This opportunity is suitable for a student or recent graduate interested in communications, public relations, digital media, journalism, graphic design or humanitarian communications.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor media coverage and mentions relating to UNHCR Kenya.

Assist with preparation of reports, fact sheets and briefing materials.

Support the updating of website stories and other public-facing content.

Assist in coordinating press briefings, workshops and communications events.

Contribute to photography, video production, writing, editing and graphic design activities.

Support content creation for UNHCR Kenya's social media platforms.

Assist with uploading press releases and web stories.

Maintain organized records of communication-related documents and consent forms.

Provide administrative and logistical support to the communications team.

Perform other communications-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should:

Be a current undergraduate or graduate student, or a recent graduate who completed their studies within the last two years.

Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field.

Have an academic background in communications, public relations or a related discipline.

Have strong written and spoken English skills.

Demonstrate good writing, storytelling and communication abilities.

Have strong organizational and analytical skills.

Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Have knowledge of video editing and graphic design.

Be familiar with Adobe Creative Suite or similar creative tools.

Additional Advantage

Experience or skills in the following areas would be beneficial:

Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Illustrator

Canva

Photography

Video production and editing

Social media management

Website content management

Humanitarian or NGO communications
