About This Opportunity
The Laboratory Technologist leads diagnostic testing, specimen collection, and clinical lab operations across facility's mobile outreach deployments and health facilities. The role ensures fast, accurate, and quality-controlled diagnostic results to support clinicians in making sound medical evaluations in diverse field settings.
Key Responsibilities
Specimen Collection & Diagnostic Testing
· Perform phlebotomy and collect, label, and process biological samples (blood, urine, stool, swabs) following strict sterile protocols.
· Conduct routine and specialized laboratory analyses, including hematology, clinical chemistry, parasitology, urinalysis, and rapid diagnostic tests.
· Record, verify, and upload diagnostic test results promptly into electronic health records (EHR) or physical laboratory logs for clinical review.
Laboratory Quality Assurance & Biosafety
· Establish and maintain internal quality control (IQC) protocols and participate in external quality assessment (EQA) schemes.
· Enforce biosafety measures, infection control guidelines, and hazardous waste disposal standards in mobile and fixed lab units.
· Calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory analyzers, microscopes, and cold-chain storage equipment.
Inventory & Field Logistics Management
· Monitor stock levels of diagnostic reagents, testing kits, collection tubes, and protective consumables to prevent stock-outs during field missions.
· Manage cold-chain integrity for temperature-sensitive reagents and biological samples during transport and mobile deployments.
· Coordinate with procurement to track expiration dates and ensure proper disposal of expired reagents.
Compliance & Record Management
· Ensure full compliance with national medical laboratory board standards, statutory health guidelines, and corporate operating policies.
· Protect patient confidentiality and adhere to strict data privacy standards for all laboratory records.
· Audit laboratory logs and assist in preparing weekly and monthly diagnostic metrics reports for clinical leadership.
Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences or related field is highly preferred.
- Active registration and valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians & Technologist Board (KMLTTB)
- Minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience as a practicing laboratory technologist in a hospital, diagnostic center, or mobile outreach project.
