Job Overview

Aga Khan University Hospital is seeking an experienced and qualified Nurse Manager & Quality Advisor to provide strategic leadership and oversight of nursing services across its Outreach Clinics. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting high-quality, safe and patient-centered care while strengthening clinical governance, quality improvement, risk management and operational performance.

The position will work closely with clinic leadership and nursing teams to promote clinical excellence, improve patient experience and ensure compliance with professional and healthcare regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Nurse Manager & Quality Advisor will provide leadership and oversight of nursing operations across Outreach Clinics, ensuring that services meet required clinical, professional and organizational standards. The role will support the implementation and monitoring of nursing policies, procedures, clinical protocols and practice guidelines.

A major focus of the position will be quality improvement and patient safety. The successful candidate will coordinate quality audits, compliance assessments and performance monitoring initiatives while reviewing clinical quality indicators, incident reports and patient safety data to identify areas requiring improvement.

The role will also support accreditation and certification processes, including frameworks such as SafeCare and JCI, and ensure that nursing services remain aligned with applicable regulatory requirements and professional standards of the Nursing Council of Kenya.

The successful candidate will lead investigations into adverse events, complaints and other quality concerns, including Root Cause Analysis and the development of corrective and preventive action plans. They will also coordinate quality dashboards, variance reports and performance reports to support informed decision-making.

The position will contribute to risk management activities by identifying potential risks, maintaining risk registers and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies. Infection prevention and control activities will also fall within the scope of the role, including compliance monitoring, staff education and continuous improvement.

In addition, the Nurse Manager & Quality Advisor will support recruitment, onboarding, staff development, performance management and retention of nursing teams. The role will promote coaching, mentoring, accountability and professional development while fostering collaboration between nursing staff, clinic leadership and other stakeholders.

The position will also contribute to initiatives designed to improve patient satisfaction, service excellence and overall patient experience. This includes investigating patient complaints and supporting timely resolution while identifying opportunities to improve service delivery.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc Nursing) from a recognized institution and must be registered nurses with a valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably gained within an acute care hospital setting, together with at least 3 years of supervisory or management experience.

A Master's degree in healthcare, business, management or a related clinical field will be an added advantage. Experience in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety programmes, accreditation or certification frameworks such as SafeCare and JCI will also be advantageous.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong clinical nursing knowledge, leadership ability, people management and team development skills. Strong knowledge of quality improvement, patient safety and risk management principles is important for success in this position.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills are also required. The successful candidate should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, accountability and the ability to lead change while promoting a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
