The Cooks will be expected to prepare meals according to established menus, recipes and required quality standards while ensuring that food is prepared, handled and served in a clean and hygienic environment. The role requires individuals who are organised, reliable and able to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.

The successful candidates will assist in planning and preparing ingredients for different meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, refreshments and other catering requirements. They will ensure that ingredients are properly cleaned, prepared, measured and stored before cooking. Attention to portion control, food quality and presentation will be important in ensuring that guests receive satisfactory meals and services.

Cooks will also be expected to maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene and food safety. This includes keeping cooking areas, utensils, equipment and food preparation surfaces clean and properly sanitised. They should follow appropriate food-handling procedures and ensure that raw and cooked foods are handled and stored appropriately to minimise contamination and wastage.

The role will involve working closely with other kitchen and hospitality staff to ensure that meals are prepared and served on schedule. Successful candidates will also be responsible for monitoring food supplies and reporting when ingredients or kitchen materials are running low. They may assist with receiving, checking and properly storing food deliveries and ensuring that perishable items are stored under suitable conditions. Proper stock handling will help minimise food wastage and maintain consistent kitchen operations.

The Cooks will be expected to operate kitchen equipment safely and responsibly. They should report faulty equipment, safety concerns or other issues affecting kitchen operations to the relevant supervisor. They will also contribute to maintaining an organised kitchen by cleaning equipment and work areas after use and ensuring that utensils and other kitchen items are properly stored.

Because CORAT Africa provides accommodation and conference facilities, the role may require flexibility in responding to varying catering needs. Cooks should be able to work as part of a team and adapt to different schedules depending on conferences, training programmes, meetings and guest requirements.

The ideal candidates should demonstrate good communication, teamwork and time-management skills. They should be able to follow instructions, work independently when required and maintain professionalism when interacting with colleagues, guests and other stakeholders. A strong commitment to cleanliness, food safety and customer service will be important for success in the position.
