Job Overview
Kanisa Savings and Credit Co-operative Society (Kanisa SACCO) is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Accountant to oversee the Society’s finance and accounting functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, managing statutory compliance, monitoring budgets and ensuring effective financial controls.
The Accountant will also provide financial guidance to management, support prudent financial management and ensure that the Society’s accounting operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
Advise the Chief Executive Officer regularly on the financial position of the Society and funds available for SACCO activities.
Maintain accurate, complete and up-to-date financial records.
Prepare and present management accounts, cost-control reports and budgets in a timely manner.
Prepare the Society’s final accounts, trial balances, statements of financial position, statements of comprehensive income and cash flow statements.
Prepare and submit statutory returns within the required deadlines, including NSSF, NHIF, PAYE and NITA returns.
Prepare and submit relevant regulatory reports, including SASRA reports.
Manage the Society’s financial accounting and monitoring systems.
Ensure accounts and reconciliations are completed regularly and accurately.
Manage debtors and creditors records and monitor outstanding balances.
Manage staff payroll and ensure accurate and timely processing of salaries and related deductions.
Ensure the Society’s assets and liabilities are properly recorded, monitored and safeguarded.
Ensure the required cash reserves are maintained in accordance with applicable requirements.
Monitor financial performance and provide accurate financial information to management for decision-making.
Develop and maintain effective financial management mechanisms and internal controls.
Review expenditure and identify opportunities for cost reduction and improved financial efficiency.
Ensure adequate budgetary controls are maintained across the Society.
Liaise with internal and external auditors on audit matters, controls and management recommendations.
Implement and review the Society’s financial accounting policies and procedures.
Keep abreast of changes in financial regulations, legislation and accounting requirements.
Provide professional guidance to management and staff on financial and accounting matters.
Review the performance of account officers and support effective financial operations.
Analyse market and competitor trends where relevant to financial planning and decision-making.
Advise and oversee prudent financial management and investment activities.
Perform any other lawful duties assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field from a recognized university and CPA (K) or ACCA qualification.
Alternatively, candidates with CPA (K) and at least two years’ experience working as an Accountant or in a comparable position with similar responsibilities in a SACCO or related organization may be considered.
At least 2 years’ experience in a management information system, preferably Microsoft Navision.
A Diploma in Co-operative Management will be an added advantage.
Strong financial management capabilities and knowledge of accounting practices.
Excellent analytical, financial reporting and presentation skills.
Strong judgment and decision-making abilities.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Good leadership and administrative capabilities.
Ability to plan, organize and execute tasks with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Good knowledge of financial controls, reconciliations, budgeting and statutory compliance.
Good IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and integrity.
Ability to work effectively with management, staff, auditors and other stakeholders.
