Job Overview

Insight Axis Africa (IAA), a research and analytics organization providing market insights, monitoring and evaluation, and data analytics services, is seeking an experienced IT Expert to manage and develop the technology infrastructure supporting its research operations.

The successful candidate will work across digital data collection, cloud infrastructure, software development, analytics platforms, cybersecurity, and IT support.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Data Collection & Technology

Design, deploy, and maintain mobile data collection solutions.

Configure and support platforms such as ODK, KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, and CommCare.

Support research teams in implementing reliable digital data collection systems.

Troubleshoot technical issues affecting data collection platforms.

Cloud & Database Infrastructure

Manage cloud infrastructure, including databases, dashboards, file storage, and automated workflows.

Administer and maintain organizational databases.

Monitor system performance, availability, security, and reliability.

Implement appropriate backup and recovery procedures.

Support infrastructure improvements as organizational technology needs evolve.

Software & Analytics

Build and maintain internal web-based tools and applications.

Develop and maintain APIs and integrations.

Support the development and maintenance of analytics dashboards.

Work with data and research teams to develop technology solutions that improve research workflows.

Support data visualization and reporting platforms.

Cybersecurity & Data Protection

Implement and enforce cybersecurity policies and controls.

Maintain appropriate data protection and information security practices.

Ensure regular data backups and appropriate disaster recovery procedures.

Support compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act and applicable data protection requirements.

Identify and address potential security risks and vulnerabilities.

IT Support

Provide Level 2 and Level 3 IT support across the organization.

Troubleshoot hardware, software, network, system, and application issues.

Support employees with technical issues and system access.

Maintain reliable IT systems and ensure minimal disruption to business operations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

At least 4 years of relevant professional experience.

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.

Experience in database administration.

Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and SQL.

Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or Metabase.

Experience with digital data collection platforms such as ODK, KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, or CommCare is highly relevant.

Familiarity with R, Stata, or SPSS is an added advantage.

Knowledge of GDPR and the Kenya Data Protection Act.
