JOB DESCRIPTION

Africa Management Solutions Limited (AMSOL), a growing Human Resources and Management consulting firm, is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Human Resource Officer to join its team in Isiolo.

The Human Resource Officer will be responsible for providing comprehensive HR support across operational locations, ensuring effective employee management, compliance with employment laws and implementation of HR policies and procedures. The role requires a practical and people-oriented professional who can work independently while supporting diverse teams operating in different locations.

The successful candidate will coordinate key HR processes including recruitment, selection, onboarding, induction and employee deployment. They will ensure that new employees are properly integrated into the organization and have the necessary documentation and support to begin their roles effectively.

The officer will also maintain confidential employee records, employment contracts and personnel files while ensuring that employee information is accurate, secure and up to date. The role requires a high level of integrity and discretion due to regular access to sensitive employee information.

Employee relations will form an important part of the position. The Human Resource Officer will handle employee grievances, workplace concerns and disciplinary processes while advising management on employee-relations matters. The officer will also promote teamwork, equality, diversity and inclusion across operational locations.

The successful candidate will coordinate probation reviews, performance planning and employee appraisals, helping managers and employees maintain clear performance expectations and development objectives.

The role will also support payroll administration by verifying attendance, leave, overtime, allowances and employee changes before payroll processing. The officer will administer various forms of employee leave, including annual, sick and compassionate leave, while ensuring that approvals and records are properly maintained.

Compliance is another important responsibility. The Human Resource Officer will ensure that HR practices comply with the Employment Act, 2007, applicable Kenyan labour laws, occupational safety requirements and company policies. The candidate will also support workforce planning, job descriptions, staffing structures, training and employee development initiatives.

The officer will prepare regular HR reports covering staffing levels, attendance, employee turnover, grievances, recruitment activities and performance. They will also support employee welfare, engagement and workplace communication initiatives.

Because the position covers operational locations, the successful candidate should be prepared to travel regularly and work in remote operational environments. The role is particularly suited to an HR professional who has experience working within the agriculture sector, especially horticulture or beekeeping operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

RECRUITMENT AND EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT

Coordinate recruitment and selection processes.

Support employee onboarding, induction and deployment.

Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files.

Manage employment contracts and related documentation.

Coordinate probation reviews and employee appraisals.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

Handle employee grievances and workplace concerns.

Support disciplinary processes in accordance with company policies.

Advise management on employee-relations risks.

Promote teamwork, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Support employee welfare and engagement initiatives.

PAYROLL AND LEAVE ADMINISTRATION

Support payroll preparation and verification.

Verify employee attendance, overtime, allowances and changes.

Administer annual, sick and compassionate leave.

Maintain accurate leave and attendance records.

HR POLICY AND COMPLIANCE

Implement HR policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with Kenyan labour laws.

Apply the Employment Act, 2007 and relevant employment regulations.

Support occupational safety and workplace compliance.

Ensure HR practices remain consistent with company policies.

PERFORMANCE AND DEVELOPMENT

Coordinate performance planning and appraisal processes.

Support employee training and development.

Assist with workforce planning.

Support the preparation and review of job descriptions.

Advise on staffing structures and HR requirements.

HR REPORTING AND ADMINISTRATION

Prepare HR reports on staffing and employee activities.

Monitor attendance and employee turnover.

Track grievances and recruitment activities.

Maintain HR documentation and records.

Use HRIS and Microsoft Office tools for HR administration.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Business Management or a related field.

Candidates with a related degree should have a Diploma/Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management or CHRP-K.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a generalist HR role.

Minimum 2 years’ experience in agriculture, preferably horticulture or beekeeping.

Knowledge of the Employment Act, 2007 and Kenyan labour laws.

Membership in the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).

Working knowledge of payroll administration and performance management.

Experience maintaining employee records and using HRIS.

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

KEY COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate should demonstrate high integrity, confidentiality and professional judgment when handling sensitive employee matters. Strong employee-relations and conflict-resolution skills are essential.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and report-writing abilities are required, together with strong organizational and administrative skills. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, establish effective HR systems and support employees from diverse backgrounds.

The candidate should also be practical, approachable and solutions-oriented, with the flexibility to travel regularly and work in remote operational locations.
