About the Role
The Theatre Nurse will play a critical role in ensuring operating theatres are fully prepared, maintaining sterile environments, assisting during surgical procedures, and providing comprehensive perioperative patient care. Key Responsibilities
Perioperative Patient Care
- Prepare patients for surgery by conducting pre-operative assessments and providing education and counselling.
- Monitor patients' vital signs before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Deliver post-operative nursing care and monitor patient recovery.
- Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, medications, and post-operative care.
Theatre Operations
- Prepare operating theatres and ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are sterilized and ready for use.
- Assist surgeons and anaesthetists during procedures by providing surgical instruments and maintaining aseptic techniques.
- Perform scrub, circulating, and recovery nursing duties across various surgical specialties.
- Support emergency surgical procedures when required.
Infection Prevention & Quality Assurance
- Maintain strict infection prevention and control standards within the operating theatre.
- Ensure compliance with aseptic techniques and patient safety protocols.
- Handle laboratory specimens safely and ensure accurate documentation.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of surgical procedures and patient progress.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and Continuous Medical Education (CME) programmes.
Collaboration
- Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary patient assessments, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
- Attend departmental meetings and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN).
- Higher Diploma in Peri-operative Nursing.
- Valid license from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
- 1–2 years of clinical experience, preferably in a theatre or perioperative setting.
